Blue Christmas by Mary Kay Andrews was a wonderful indulgence for me. It’s a lighthearted, breezy jaunt through the holiday season in Savannah, Georgia. Antiques dealer Weezie Foley is desperate to win the historic district’s annual decorating contest – especially since she feels a fierce rivalry with her across-the-street-neighbors Manny Alvarez and Cookie Parker. Manny and Cookie are new in town and Weezie thinks their tacky decorations have to go!
Meanwhile, Weezie’s boyfriend Daniel simply can’t get into the Christmas spirit and Weezie needs to find the perfect gift in order to brighten his mood. And maybe, just maybe, if his mood brightens enough, he’ll give her the engagement ring she’s been pining for.
With cute and unexpected story twists, perfectly drawn characters (like Weezie’s best friend BeBe and her misbehaving mutt Jethro), Blue Christmas is a quick but delightful read. It was silly and happy and just what I needed to get in the Christmas spirit.
